Astrid, who was raised, abused and neglect, as the illegitimate daughter of a marquis, is sent into a political marriage with the Valrick family. A noble house said to rule a remote frontier where dragons roam, and rumored to possess the power to command them. However, behind the marriage lies a secret mission from her father: find a weakness in the Valricks and exploit it. As Astrid begins her life with her cold, guarded, and distrustful husband, Cassian, she gradually comes to see the awkward kindness hidden beneath his harsh exterior. Little by little, her feelings for him begin to change. Then, an unexpected incident leads her to discover a secret that must never be revealed to anyone. Cassian himself has the ability to transform into a dragon.
